About this product
Why is drinking matcha good for you?
Matcha tea is a powerful drink that supports both body and mind. Because matcha involves consuming the whole tea leaf in powder form, you receive a high dose of antioxidants (such as EGCG), which aid in detoxification, neutralize free radicals, and support your immune system. Matcha is also known to mildly boost metabolism.
Compared to coffee, matcha also contains caffeine, but thanks to the unique amino acid L-theanine, it provides a calmer, longer-lasting energy boost without spikes, crashes, or jitters. It promotes concentration, cognitive performance, and mental clarity, while also having a relaxing effect.
Matcha is not only good for your health, but also forms a soothing daily ritual – a moment of attention, stillness and balance in a busy day.
Why do I need these bamboo tools for making matcha?
In Japanese tea culture, matcha has been prepared for centuries using two essential tools: the chashaku (spoon) and the chasen (whisk). Both tools are traditionally made from a single piece of bamboo, hand-carved, and used in the Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu), a ritual that emphasizes simplicity, mindfulness, and harmony.
The chashaku helps you scoop just the right amount of matcha, while the chasen, with its fine bamboo bristles, whisks the powder into a silky, frothy drink without damaging the delicate texture of the powder.
Unlike metal spoons or whisks, which can crush the powder, impart a metallic aftertaste, or compromise the quality and vibrant green color of the matcha through oxidation, bamboo is completely neutral in aroma and flavor. Moreover, bamboo is light, flexible, and doesn't splinter easily, ideal for the delicate, airy technique that matcha requires. Bamboo is also one of the most sustainable materials on earth: it grows quickly, requires no pesticides, and captures more CO₂ than most tree species.
How do I use and clean the tools?
Chasen
The matcha whisk is an essential tool for preparing matcha, as it allows the green tea powder to be mixed with the water without lumps, allowing the tea's full aroma to develop. The matcha whisk comes in recyclable plastic packaging. This packaging is intended for transport only. It is not suitable for storage after use. The Chasen should not be stored in a damp place in its sealed packaging.
It's a tool that, with proper care, will last a long time, but not forever. To keep your Chasen in good condition, keep the bristles of a dry Chasen in mind: the bristles tend to break when whisking matcha. Therefore, it's best to soften the bristles before each use by gently swirling them in hot water.
Kusenaoshi
After use, the Chasen must dry. A special stand is provided for this purpose. The bamboo whisk can dry quickly on this stand. Even more importantly, it must maintain its shape on such a stand, while also allowing the inner ribs to unfold properly.
Chashaku
As long as the bamboo spoon doesn't get wet, it can simply be wiped clean with a clean, dry cloth after use. However, if the chashaku does get wet and dirty, it should be rinsed under clean, running water without dish soap, wiped clean with a cotton cloth, and then air-dried. This prevents the matcha powder from sticking to the bamboo spoon.
